Ferozepur, July 5, 2016:  Congress MC from Ward No.14 along with 20-25 unidentified persons have been booked for blocking the traffic at the Rail Over Bridge (ROB) connecting Ferozepur City and Cantonment area on Monday for several hours, demanding transfer of Jatinder Singh, SHO City Police Station.

On Monday, a tip-off was given by Gurdev Singh to the police about planning of the the traffic jam at RoB which may cause inconvenience to the public. A case under Section 283 IPC – danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation – has been booked against Babbo Paardhan alongwith 20-25 unidentified persons at Sadar Police Station, Ferozepur.

Due to dharna, the traffic remained stranded at the busy over bridge on both the sides,  due to which the commuters including women and children had to face heavy problems.

However, later on the dharna was lifted after the assurance was given by Avtar Singh Bhatti, SHO, Sadar police station. The furious MC handed over a memorandum to the SHO also demanding transfer of the City Police SHO Jatinder Singh.

Added here that majority of the MCs in Municipal Council belong to SAD-BJP parties and only three represent Congress and Independent.

The background of the case is that Baboo has alleged that since he is a Congress MC, police is deliberately targeting the residents of his ward. “Every now and then, the police officials swoop down the innocent people of my ward on the pretext of checking. These people never enter the wards of any SAD, he added.

When contacted, Vibhor Sharma, DSP, Ferozepur said that the police does not target anyone without any reason. “The police may have seen some suspicious movement on the CCTV and they might have raided the place. The police does not have enmity with anyone”, said DSP.
