CAWA launches dog sterilization project in border town Ferozepur
Ferozepur, October 26, 2020: CAWA- Compassion for Animal Welfare Association has launched a dog sterilization project in this border town in association with the Cantonment Board in view of the spurt in the population of stray dogs and a spike in dog bite incidents.
Under the project, the board will assist CAWA in managing the street dog population and control the prevalence of rabies. During the plan, the dogs will be caught by experienced dog catchers and handlers, following which the surgery of both male and female dogs will be done apart from anti-rabies vaccination.
Brig Vignesh Mahanty, President, Cantonment Board, said the dogs would be given a permanent identification mark to indicate that it had been vaccinated.
Senior Citizen, S.K.Talwar said, the stray dogs are becoming a nuisance in this border town and there had been number of biting instances. Not only this, they bark at night and disturb the sleep, bark at delivery boys, chase kids in the streets. When anyone tries to shoo them away they come in groups and chase the person. The initiative taken by the Cantonment Board is appreciable, the City Municipal Committee should also follow to neuter the dogs so that they don’t reproduce and increase the nuisances.
