Candidates contesting MC elections can get videography of poll process with prior permission: Election Observer
Police force and commandos to keep vigil on sensitive & hyper-sensitive booths
Ferozepur, February 24: The Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayats will be held on February 25 in the state and the candidates contesting the elections can get videography of poll process with prior permission, said Manjit Singh Narang, Election Observer while addressing the media persons at Press Club today.
In Ferozeur, 270 candidates of Akali-BJP, Congress and Independents are in race in MC elections. 0ut of 31 wards, the candidates in 2 wards have been elected as unopposed and in the remaining 29 wards, 99 candidates have been left. Similarly, out of 13 wards of Talwandi Bhai Municipal Council, in 8 Wards, the candidates stands declared as unopposed and for the remaining 5 wards, there are 14 candidates in race. In Nagar Council, Zira, 68 candidates in 17 wards, 41 candidates in 13 wards of Nagar Panchayat and 28 candidates in 13 wards of Nagar Panchayat Mudki have been left to contest for the elections. In all, 247 candidates are in fray in MC polls in the district.
For smooth conduct of polls, 696 officials have been deputed in 77 wards at 134 polling booths including 66 sensitive and 64 hyper sensitive booths.
Narang, Election Observer said, any candidate can get videographed the poll process in his ward after getting the prior permission by making a request to Election Officer, as per directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court. With these arrangements, the unscrupulous persons would avoid to indulge in any untoward incident being captured appropriately in whole of the poll process.
Talking about the security arrangements, he said, for peaceful conduct of polls, police force as per need have been deployed besides calling of commandos for the sensitive wards. Even metal detectors will also be installed at the polling booths.
He further said, he will be personally keeping a vigil at the sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths.
Election Observer appealed to then citizens to use the right of their franchise without any pressure or fear. In the event of any such situation, the candidate or the voter can contact him directly or the District Election Officer or District Nodal officer SP(H) or SDM.
