BSF thwarts smuggling attempts along Indo-Pak border into India, seizes 8 Kg heroin in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, October 29, 2016: Today, Border Security Force personnel successfully seized 131 small packets & two pkts 1 Kg each (weight approx. 8 Kgs) of contraband suspected to be heroin in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post Dona Telu Mal, Ex- 137 Bn BSF, Sector Ferozepur.
Keeping in view the vulnerability of Border due to heightened activities of smugglers/ Anti-National Elements on border, Shri Anil Paliwal, IPS, Inspector General BSF Punjab Frontier issued operational guidelines to all the Sectors and Battalions under Punjab Frontier for further strengthening the border domination and to remain extra alert so as to effectively check activities of Anti- National Elements on Punjab border with Pakistan. Accordingly, DIG Sector BSF Ferozepur directed Field Commanders to maintain extra vigil on border to thwart the attempts of Anti- National Elements. Tactical Operations are being mounted to foil the attempts of the smugglers/ Anti-National Elements.
On 29th Oct’ 2016 at about 0200 hrs, suspicious movement of 02 persons near International Border ahead of Border Security Fence in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post Dona Telu Mal, Ex- 137 Bn BSF, Sector Ferozepur was observed by BSF troops deployed on duty. BSF troops challenged them to stop, but the smugglers continued with their aggressive posture. To stop their misadventure further, BSF troops opened fire, however, the smugglers managed to escape taking cover of thick vegetation, undulating ground and darkness. In follow up action, after first light, search of the area ahead of B S fence (where suspicious movement was observed ) was carried out. During search of the area, BSF troops recovered 131 small packets & two pkts 1 Kg each (approx. 8 Kgs) of contraband suspected to be heroin, which was hidden in the wild growth at a distance of approx.500 mtrs from International border .
The enhanced vigil of BSF troops has once again thwarted the attempt of smugglers/ Anti-National Elements to smuggle contraband items into India. During the year 2016, BSF has effected 214 Kg heroin including today recovery, 12 weapons, 16 magazines, 217 rounds, 19 Pak Mobile, 33 Pak Sim Cards, 11 Indian Mobiles, 6 Indian Sim Cards, one Bangladesh Mobile, 2 Bangladesh Sim Cards, 6 Pakistani intruders interdicted, 6 Pak smugglers interdicted , one Pak smuggler apprehended, 29 Pak border crosser apprehended, 2 Indian smugglers apprehended, 12 Indian smuggler apprehended, 56 Indian border crosser apprehended and 4 Bangladesh National apprehended, said R.S.Kataria, DIG, Senior PRO, Border Security Fore Punjab Frontier.
