BSF seizes 15 kg heroin in Ferozepur Sector
Ferozepur, April 5, 2017: Today, Border Security Force personnel successfully seized 15 packets weighing 15 kg of contraband suspected to be heroin in the area of responsibility of Border Out Post Khalra Brrrier, Ex-87, BSF, Sector Ferozepur. The international value of the seized heroin is said to be Rs.75 crore in the international market.
Mukul Goel, IPS IG BSF Punjab Frontier informed that based on specific information provided by Narcotic Control Bureau Amritsar about smuggling of narcotics through international bofer, a special ambus was laid on night intervening 4-5 April by BSF troops of Border Out Post Khalra Barrier, Ex-87 Bn BSF Sector, Ferozpeur along with representative of NCB. At about 2.30 am ambush party ob served suspicious movement of Pak smugglers near international border and get alerted when Pak smuggler started throwing some packets over the fence, own tropps challenged them to stop but Pak smugglers opened fire. In retaliation and self defence, BSF troops also opened fire on Pak smugglers. However, the Pak smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of darkness and high grown wheat crops and undulating ground. During search 15 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin were recovered near the fence.
The enhanced vigil of BSF troops has once again thwarted the attempt of smugglers/anti-national elements to smuggle contraband items into India. During the year 2017, BSF has effected 59.261 kg heroin including today’s seizure besides weapons, maganizes, ammunition, sim cards etc. (file photo added)
