Ferozepur, January 30, 2016: A Head Constable of Border Security Force –known for first defence line of India –  belonging to 105 Battalion at Border Out Post Dona Telu Mal (DT Mal) reportedly killed himself with his 9 mm service rifle.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Shamsuddin Khan (46) son of Mohammad Murtaja Hussain. He was a resident of Village Mittarpur of Bardhaman District in West Bengal.  He was reported to be under depression during the last few days.

As per the sources, the incident took place during Friday-Saturday midnight. The BSF and police officials present in the Civil Hospital where the body was taken for postmortem were tight lipped over the incident of killing.

Civil Hospital SMO confirmed that at least eleven bullets passed through his body and hit on the wall. BSF jawan reported to have died on the spot. His body was however, drenched with blood.

However, Commandant BSF 105 Bn was not available for any official version.

Accordingly to Puran Chand SHO, the investigation in to the incident is on to ascertain the reasons behind the suicide.  No suicidal note is reported to have been recovered.  However, intimation at his native place has been given.

It is added here that in the past few years, the jawans of our forces have been reversing rifles at themselves, at an alarming rate. Suicides are a major cause for concern. Unfortunately, all our present recruitment policy is too physically oriented; we have no psychological tests to see whether a recruit can take prolonged separation from his family, which our service entails. One of the reason is also said to be the cheaper call rates which keeps them in touch with the family update on all domestic problems and stressed by his inability to help resolve dispute.
