Bomb threat disrupts train services in Ferozepur; informer apprehended in West Bengal
Ferozepur, July 30, 2024: A bomb threat on the Jammu Tawi-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express (train number 19926) in Ferozepur on Tuesday morning, at 7.42 AM today, led to an emergency evacuation of passengers and the halting of the train at Kasu Begu station and immediate action by security forces, including Punjab Police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) amid high alert in the region.
The informer, who posted a message on RailMadad, after tracking has been apprehended from 24 Pargana in West Bengal, confirmed Soumya Mishra, SSP Ferozepur adding further action for registration of an FIR is being initiated.
The threat was reported via the Rail Madad app at around 7.30 am, using a mobile number traced to West Bengal. The individual responsible for the threat has been apprehended. Security teams, including bomb disposal squads, are currently on the scene to ensure safety.
The ‘RailMadad’ app allows passengers to lodge complaints through the Mobile APP & WEB platform and enables them to check real-time feedback on the status of redressal of their complaints.
As a precaution, the Jammu Tawi-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express was halted at Kasu Beghu station, 10 km from Ferozepur, following a bomb threat. The train was en route to Bhagat Ki Kothi station near Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Passengers were safely evacuated, and bomb disposal squads, along with fire brigade and medical teams, were deployed to the site to search for any explosives.
The incident caused the diversion of four other trains, with additional safety measures in place. The affected trains include Train No. 19223 Gandhinagar Capital-Jammu Tawi and Train No. 14623 Seoni-Ferozepur Cantt, via Kot Kapura, Muktsar, Fazilka, Jalalabad, and Ferozepur Cantt. Train No. 01612 Ferozepur Cantt-Bathinda was short-originated from Golehwala, while Train No. 04603 Bathinda-Ferozepur Cantt was short-terminated at Golehwala.
Railway sources confirmed that after a thorough inspection, no bomb was found on the Jammu Tawi-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express. The train and track were declared safe, and normal traffic resumed around 1 PM.
