BKU demands roll back of Land Acquisition Ordinance 2014

BKUFerozepur, February 10 : The members of Bhartiya Kissan Union (BKU) today protested all over the Punjab in front of the office of the deputy commissioners demanding roll back of Land Acquisition Ordinance 2014 as under this, the land of the farmer can be acquired without the consent of the farmer.

Addressing the protesters, Member Punjab Delegate, Bhag Singh Markhai, under whose tutelage the dharna was organized before the DAC, said, they would not take it lying down, if the government played with the rights of farmers.

He further said, the Bill which was passed during the tenure of Manmohan Singh led government, it was decided that 80 per cent consent of the farmer is necessary for acquiring of land and in case the acquired land is not utilized for the purpose it has been acquired, the land will be handed over back to the owner. But in this way, the black money will be converted into white and small farmers will lose their land ownership and will become unemployed.

The leaders also demanded to given compensation to the farmers who have committed suicide since January 2000 after proper survey.

They also demanded the rollback of Black Law and continue with the previous law in vogue during UPA government.

The present on this occasion were Gurpreet Singh, Unit President Faridewala, Anokh Singh, General Secretary, Sardul Singh, Vice President, Suba Singh Vice Prfesident, Bhag Singh, Jit Singh Markhai Vice President, Zira, Didar Singh, Nishan Singh vice President Mallanwla, Jarmal Singh Changali and others.

When Ashok Bajaj, Retd. ITO and social activists contacted, he said that the government is mum over about Schedule I- brought in the new Act  – by ordinance Section 105(3) wherein nothing is being compensated as properties in urban area are much dearer and it is not to be multiplied.  In rural area, four time clause is based on distance.  Since nobody would like to establish industry 50Km away from urban area, no faramer would benefit of four time compensation.  He said, it is tactful drafting with ifs and buts.
