BJP Legal Cell seeks information RTI Act, submits application to DC
Ferozepur, July 11, 2020: The Ferozepur Unit of Bhartiya Janata Party Legal and Legislative Cell Punjab, led by Ashwani Dhingra, Advocate, State General Secretary BJP L&L Cell, under the guidelines of Ashwani Sharma, President BJP Punjab and N K Verma, Convener submitted an application to the Deputy Commissioner under Right to Information Act, for obtaining data on the controversial issue of details of Covid funds in the form of cash, ration or in any other form from January 1, 2020 onwards.
Apart from Delhi, the BJP has RTI cells in at least five other states–Maharashtra, Haryana, Mizoram, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The idea of setting up an RTI cell is to train party workers in using the law to expose corruption came from Delhi BJP leader Harsh Vardhan in 2008.
BJP L&L Cell Punjab has decided to submit RTI application to seek information on receipt and distribution of funds in cash or in-kind in the State to the DCs, to embarrass the administration.
Dhingra was accompanied by Gagan Goklany, Neeraj Makol, Amit Chopra, Anoop Sharma, Hardeep Bajaj, Chetan Sikri, Sunil Malhotra, Naveen Puri, Amit Sharma,and Maninder Vohra Advocates.
In the RTI application, Dhingra has sought the details of Covid-19 funds distribution along with the names of the Nodal Officers in all the sub-divisions.
Dhingra said, the information has been sought to check any misappropriation or avoid damage to any leftover stocks in storage and it reaches to the needy persons as there had been reports about non-reaching such facility to the real beneficiaries.
