Banking operations affected for second consecutive day, to intensify agitation, warns unions
Ferozepur, March 16, 2021: Banking operations remain affected for the second consecutive day following the two-day strike by the Bank employees, on a call from United Forum of Bank Unions –UFBU, to protest against the move to privatize two nationalized banks.
Due to a strike called by UFBU – an umbrella body of nine bank unions to register their protest against the center’s proposed privatization and disinvestment plan, on the second day, the public was severely affected by key services, including cash withdrawals, deposits, cheque clearances and remittances, across public sector banks as most of the ATMs were also drained.
Even Rahul Gandhi has also tweeted that GOI is privatizing profit and nationalizing loss. Selling PSBs to Modicronies gravely compromises India’s financial security. I stand in solidarity with the striking bank employees.
During today’s protest, the bank employees hold protests in front of the main SBI branch in the cantonment area by holding posters, wearing masks with slogans.
Speaking to the media, Prem Sharma and others said, the government’s policies are going to disturb the economy and likely to be reflected in the upcoming polls in several states. The employees also threatened to intensify the agitation if the government fails to listen to them.
