Avoid ‘Identity Theft’ by stop sharing status on social media
Ferozepur, June 9, 2022: Social media is now a day considered the fifth pillar of democracy but we can take preventive measures to help minimize the chances of being a victim ourselves of ‘Identity Theft’. Identity theft on social media happens for multiple reasons and can affect anyone, said Ashok Behal, Secretary Red Cross.
Social media was introduced primarily as a means of communication to align with long-lost buddies and to share personal thoughts, ideas, and insights, but with the gradual increase of social media users, there has been a minor shift of interest in the active audience on platforms from content sharing to breach of private information.
He said, there are the number of incidents when there had been thefts in the houses when the entire family has gone for a pleasure trip and shared on the social media. The young generation has now started posting the status of visiting the other stations, especially during the summer holidays which gives a clue to the professional unscrupulous persons and thieves.
Making an appeal to the people not to post their status on the social media while moving away even for a single day, he said, Social media hacks are on the rise. Social media sites require your personal information to operate—but sharing your private data puts you at risk of identity theft. Make sure you are doing everything you can to keep your data safe.
Another person who is active on social media –PK, said, with the increased use of social tools for business communications, social media security is more important than ever. While the benefits of social are clear, there are risks to be wary of.
