Association for English Teaching Aspirants, Punjab claims to review promotion policy
Ferozepur, March, A state level delegation of the Association For English Teaching Aspirants, Punjab today met the Congress MLA from Ludhiana (West) Bharat Bhushan Ashu, regarding promotions from the ETT to the Master Cadre in the subject of English.
The president of the Association Kushal Singhi apprised the MLA of their long standing demand of promotions in the subject of English in the interest of nearly 17 lakh students of the 6432 Govt Schools.
He added that the teaching of English in Govt. schools has been ignored for long by the previous government due to the lack of concrete policy in this regard. There is no provision of promotions from the ETT to the Master Cadre in the subject of English under 25% promotion quota as in other subjects like Punjabi, Hindi, Science etc.
Due to this, the ETT Teachers having full eligibility and qualifications of English Masters are being discriminated against even after 15-20 years of service in the Govt. Primary Schools.
Another spokesperson of the Association Mukesh Saini further added that the Association has to resort to the legal course in order to pursue their legitimate demand to ensure quality education in the Govt. Schools of the state. As a result, the honourable High Court has put a stay on the promotions of all other subjects as well till the matter is resolved. But the department is trying to compel the Association to withdraw the court cases and vacate the stay instead of paying any heed to this burning issue. There is a deadlock now which the MLA has promised to remove by arranging a panel meeting of the association with the Education minister and the Educational Authorities.
Those among present were Parvinder Singh, Gurbaj Singh, Shivraj Singh, Gautam Kumar , Sukhminder Singh, Jatinderpal Singh, Sukhvir Kaur, Rupinder Kaur, Suman Lata and others.
