Another 8 throws in Ferozepur jail, alert staff seizes mobiles, adopter, tobacco sachets

Ferozepur, March 5, 2024: The sneaking of mobiles inside the jail premises is unabated, through various means including the throw of packets over the high walls and in the recent 8 throws seized by the alert staff, containing 5 mobiles, 1 adopted and 143 tobacco sachets (zarda).  So far, there have been 85 throws including today’s 8 during the current year.

So far as the recovery of mobiles, the total recovery during the current years is 107 mobiles besides other banned items. It was 64 on January 28 in February and 15 in March including today’s 5 mobiles.

During the recent two surprise checks, the alert jail staff seized 8 throw over the high walls of the jail, by unidentified persons, by Jasvir Singh, Assistant Superintendent, 5 mobiles, one adopter with data cable and 143 sachets of tobacco (zarda) from under-trial prisoner Sonu and Sukhdev Singh of Ferozepur already in jail.

Taking the prisoners on remand for investigation in routine mobile recoveries is not secure from a security point of view. But at the same time, merely registration of cases would not suffice; there is a need to tighten the security inside and outside the jail premises and quick follow up of high-profile cases to crack the nexus between the inmates and the outer world, to keep an eye on the activities going on.
