Among 69 candidates announced, SAD relied on old three candidates in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, November 17, 2016: The Election Commission is yet to announce the final dates for elections in Punjab due in early 2017 but the political parties have started announcing the candidates to maintain an image in the constituency well before the final voting.
In Ferozepur, three candidates have been announced by the Shiromani Akali Dal – SAD while the fourth goes in the quota of Bhartiya Janata Party – BJP.
In Zira constituency, SAD (Badal) has one again repeated Jathedar Hari Singh Zira – senior Akali leader and existing MLA and one of the oldest associate of SAD(Badal). He has strong standing in the elections because of over-all development in the rural areas of his constituency.
In Ferozepur, Joginder Singh Jindu, MLA Rural has again been chosen for the coming Assembly elections. He is close associate of Janmeja Singh Sekhon who belongs to Ferozepur but shifted to Maur. In the last elections, he was given a tough fight by Satkar Kaur – a Congress candidate with a margin of less than even two hundred votes. But this time, he is likely to win with grand margin because of development works in his constituency and his acquaintance with the people, accessibility to the common man and showing his presence almost in all the functions irrespective of status of the person. Not only this, he has good influence with the Hindu community who will cast their votes in their favour. The plus point in his favour is that one of his son Surinder Singh Baboo is Vice President of Cantonment Board and second one – Rohit – is also councilor from Ferozepur Cantt.
The third candidate announced is Vardev Singh Mann from Guruharsahai who is graduate and son of late Zora Singh Mann, former MLA – a close associate of Badals. He however, lost in 2012 in a tough competition with Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi. But still they claim to be having personal influence in the area because of good standing reputation of his father.
The fourth seat of local Ferozepur has gone in the account of 69 candidates announced by the SAD. Presently, the seat is occupied by Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki who had given a hard-hitting fight to Sukhpal Singh Nannu. There is also a rumour this time to field the new candidate against Pinki and name figuring among the public is Kamal Sharma, former BJP President, presently representing as member National Executive Committee BJP. But he is still silent over this issue and onus for contesting the next elections look to be given to Sukhpal Singh Nannu.
