American Indian Foundation Trust selects 142 students for scholarship from Punjab, 15 students from Ferozepur

DEO HONOURING 15 STUDENTS

Ferozepur, February, 11: The American Indian Foundation Trust – accelerating social and economic change in India through its Digital Equalizer (DE) program – has selected 142 students for scholarship during the year 2013-14, out of which 15 students are from Ferozepur District.

Giving this information, Santosh Singh, Program Manager, Digital Equalizer, Punjab said,  AIF&#39s Digital Equalizer (DE) program is a computer-aided learning program that is bridging the education and digital divide in India, and preparing tens of thousands of children to compete in the digital economy. Targeting children in grades 6 and above, AIF supports a DE school for 3 years and prepares it for self-sufficiency after this period

The core principle behind the Digital Equalizer (DE) program is to make quality education accessible to all by equalizing the digital divide that is still widely prevalent in our educational institutions, he added.

He said, Digital Equalizer is primarily a 3 year Techno-Pedagogy program that focuses on integrating technology with pedagogy to enhance the teaching learning process in our educational institutions. The Digital Equalizer approach is to collaborate with the state government to equip under resourced schools with a computer center, providing an educational laboratory to enhance student learning that reaches approximately 400 students per site.

Singh further stated that students from government schools do not lack talent or potential. They merely lack opportunities and facilities to learn.  The students in villages have limited resources and to solve this problem the Digital Equalizer program launched by AIFT is quite helpful to bridge the digital gap between modern schools and under resources schools.

Jagsir Singh Aawa, DEO and Pardeep Kumar Deora, Dy. DEO today handed over the second and third installment of Rs.12000 to the students in the presence of concerned teachers and parents under DE program.  They informed that first installment of scholarship of Rs.6000 was released during January 2013.

While thanking the representatives of AIFT, DEO motivated the students to work hard on their studies in coming days.
