320 mobiles recovered during 2023
Ferozepur, September 22, 2023: The recovery of mobiles – the most wanted item by the prisoners for illegal purposes – and other banned items continue to recover from the barracks and in possession of inmates despite tight security arrangements at the entry points having more than 200 security cops. This has become a mystery, with todays’ recovery of 4 mobiles and one charger during the search operation of barracks, on a tip off with the jail staff.
Mobile is the most wanted banned item inside the jail to remain in contact with the family members and for illegal purposes by making threatening calls to extort money.
In the recent recover, five inmates – Parbhdeep Singh, Manvinder Singh, Luvpreet, Vijay Kumar and Jaskirat Singh, have booked under Persons Act and further investigations are on with the concerned IOs.
The regular recovery of mobiles from inside the jail for use by the prisoners, despite the three layer security needs to be probed in-depth at a high level.
However, it is added here that the mobile recovery and its usage investigation is a great problem as the concerned prisoner has to be taken on remand, all the time from the jail which is not free from security point of view and in majority of the cases, the matter ends with the registration of the case under Prisons Act.
According to jail officials, due to the open area outside the jail, sometimes the packets and balls are also thrown containing the banned items. However, the area is being covered by deploying extra security staff. But there is no police post inside the jail so far.
No doubt the alert staff at entry points and with tip off from their sources, has made recoveries of banned items from inside the jail but negligence in checking at the entry point cannot be ruled out as it reduces the purpose of keeping the criminals, under trials away from the outer world, as punishment in the four walls of jail, is lost.
