Alert Jail staff seized 5 mobiles from jail, 3 inmates booked

Ferozepur, April 14, 2023: The alert jail staff during the search operation recovered 5 mobiles including two lying unclaimed with SIM cards and batteries.

Divulging with details, Gurmail Singh, IO in this case informed that during the search operation on April 13, five mobiles were recovered – three from jail inmates gangster under trial prisoners Gurpeet Singh Gopi and Jagjit Singh while one from prisoner Sunny, already in the jail and two with battery and SIM card lying unclaimed.

A case, on the complaint of Gurtej Singh, Assistant Superintendent has been registered under section 52-A of Prisons Act at Ferozepur City police station and further investigations are on.

It is pertinent to mention, the recovery of mobile phones from inside the jail despite strict vigil at the entry points is continued but the alert jail staff recover the same during the various search operations from time to time. Recently, 26 mobiles were recovered along with other banned items from the prisoners and lying unclaimed in the campus.

Gurnam Lal, Superintendent Jail who is on deputation from BSF had said on the last huge recovery of mobiles to relocate the jail premises out of the city boundary as the existing campus if surrounded with high rising building and open space from where the throw of packets and balls continuing banned items cannot be ruled out and the purpose of keeping the prisoners away from the outer world as punishment from their crimes, is lost.

Recovery of mobile phones with inmates, especially from hard-core ones sometimes, is a cause of serious concern for society and security agencies which needs urgent redressal, said S P Khera, Past President, Senior Citizens Forum.
