After Lok Sabha, third stroke to Akalis, Now wait for “Triangular Fight” in Punjab
With the total sweep of Congress and BJP+Alliance in Delhi Assembly elections, it is the third defeat for the Akalis after the Lok Sabha elections.
When there was a Modi Wave in whole of the country, it did not work in Punjab. Shiromani Akali Dal had fielded its candidates on ten seats and it could win only four. Its alliance party could only two seats while contesting on three seats.
On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party – AAP – could win on four seats in Punjab. Congress could win only on three seats – Capt Amrinder Singh, Ch.Santokh Singh and Ravneet Singh Bittu.
Haryana elections were followed by Lok Sabha elections. In these elections, Akali Dal instead of supporting its alliance party BJP in Punjab, preferred to support INALO in Haryana. There was a total sweep of Akali Dal – INALO alliance in Haryana and BJP succeeded in forming its government. It was the second defeat of Akali’s after the Lok Sabha elections.
Recently in Delhi, Akali Dal fielded its four candidates in Delhi Assembly elections but unfortunately got defeat on all the four seats and it is the third consecutive loss by the Akalis.
Now Akali Dal is worried about the bye elections at Dhuri with the resignation of Arvind Khanna, Congress MLA. During Dhuri elections, the AAP candidate had got 35,000 votes. In case, AAP field its candidate at this stage, the Akali Dal had to face a tough fight. The political situation could be clear only after the decision of AAP to field its candidate at Dhuri. But it is certain that in the coming days, the fight in Punjab will be a ‘’Triangular Fight” between Akali-BJP, Congress and AAP.
