Ferozepur, September 8, 2015: With the updating of data in the newly developed software National Database of Armed Licenses (NDAL) – developed by the Minister of Home Affairs (MHA) through National Informatics Centre (NIC), the issuance of arms licenses and various other services like NOC, sale, deletion, extension of jurisdiction, change of bore etc. would become easy.

Presently, the entire work in the districts is done partially on the computer in the Suwidha Centers and manually and the aim of the government is to ensure the defined process of service delivery for providing the services of arm license which will facilitate the electronic delivery of services through the instructions and guidelines as desirable in the various services or in other words to introduce a paperless work.

In fact, the National Database of Armed License (NDAL) will allow the government to keep tabs on the number of licenses given out in the country, and also check the proliferation of arms and keep an eye on the number of licenses issued across the country.

NIC has already created an Arms License Issuance System for the state of Punjab. The software allows integration of application submission, acceptance of fees and delivery of license from a single counter. The software also allows online capturing of the applicant’s photograph and automatic checking of the ceiling of number of weapons.

In addition to this, the capital city of Punjab has also digitalized its database of arms license holders. This database allows police authorities to better tack owners of firearms, and also enables citizens to view the status of their license application. E-district at the district level has been introduced in view of Prime Minister’s initiative to digitalize all the administrative services online.

In order to avoid chaotic situation in arms license department, the authorities have asked the license holders to submit filled performa at Tehsil Office level. Insiders, however, said that officials of arms license department were also cross-checking details submitted by holders.

As per the sources, there are around 21000 arms licenses in Ferozepur which include 4,000 of Fazilka District.  Out of this, certain license holders have shifted from the district including the Army personnel.

So far, the data of around 15,000 license holders have been updated on new NDAL software and is likely to be completed by the target date September 15.

Er.DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner confirmed the data entry work going on in the district and would be completed within the target date. With the introduction of new system, the various services relating to arms licenses would become easier, instant and convenience, at any place throughout India.

In the new system, Unique ID number will be generated which will help to monitor the issuance of licenses, tracking and verification purposes at all India level in the event of any crime with the use of weapon, he added.
