AAP to hold protest against high power tariffs in Punjab by holding 16,000 public meetings
Ferozepur, April 10, 2021: Aam Aadmi Party unit Ferozepur will hold protest against by holding 16,000 public meetings, the rising power prices in Punjab and to demand Amarinder Singh-led government provide free power to people on the lines of Delhi as announced by the party to launch an agitation said Nirvair Singh Sindhi, Media Incharge along with District President Bibi Bhupinder Kaur, District Secretary Iqbal Singh.
They said earlier Badal government entered into power purchase agreements with private power plants, terms of which favoured private players and the Congress government also continued safeguarding the interests of private players at the cost of the residents in the state.
Sindhi said, AAP is fighting for the Punjab people’s cause and one can well imagine how serious the Capt’s government in providing the basic amenities to the people.
He said, a comparative study with different states clearly shows how power purchased from private plants was priced high. Despite their pre-poll announcement to investigate the power purchase agreements, the recent Congress government has failed to do anything due to extraneous reasons
Sidhi said, in protest against the hike in power bills, in the symbolic protest, the AAP workers will burn the copies of bills in the State after holding 16,000 public meetings, taking care of Covid-19 guidelines. They would also go door to door to get information about electricity bills and burn the electricity bills in different villages.
