Ferozepur, July 2, 2019: Taking cognizance of the increase in fraudulent activities with the innocent persons by opening unregistered consultancy and immigration companies, the district administration today ordered a crackdown on them and formed joint teams of civil and police officers to verify their credentials as per the instructions of the government from time to time.
Presiding over a meeting with travel agents association, Chander Gaind, Deputy Commissioner directed all unregistered agents to register their firms for obtaining mandatory licence, to avoid to face the music of law.
He said, joint teams of SDMs and DSPs would carry out checking of unregistered agents and companies and asked them to seal their offices if all legal provision mandated for these agents were not being complied with.
Further, DC told them to register FIR against defaulting persons under Punjab Travel Professionals Regulation Act 2014 and revealed that the crackdown would continue in the coming days.
In the meeting, Jagtar Singh of Jawahar Singh Wala village apprised the deputy commissioner about the fraud of Rs.13.30 by a couple on the pretext of sending him to Canada in 2017. He said that now despite after two years, the couple had failed to send him Canada and now the couple has not been giving back the paid money.
Deputy Commissioner immediately asked the assistant commissioner, Ranjit Singh, to ask the police department to register FIR in this case. He appealed the people to contact only registered travel agents and immigration firms.
Deputy Commissioner further told all travel agents to remove all illegal hoardings and banners and erect the hoardings on the permitted places after paying the fees according to advertisement policy.
He ordered MC EO Charanjeet Singh and Inspector Sukhpal Singh to take action against the firms which erected illegal hoardings and banners.
He also asked all firms to procure Fire Safety Licence from Fire Safety Officer and asked all these firms to put fire extinguishers and fire fighting system in the order in their premises.
Gaind also ordered the owners of Printing Press in Ferozepur not to print the publicity material of those immigration firms and travel agents, who have not registered with the administration.
Further, the deputy commissioner asked all media houses to publish the advertisements of only registered firms and travel agents.
On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Ranjit Singh, Travel Agents Association President Avtar Singh Josan and others were present.
