Ferozepur, December 23, 2016: With the Assembly elections 2017 coming nearer, the factionalism in the Congress party has become visible on announcement of first list of candidates in Ferozepur.
In the first list of 61 candidates, Satkar Kaur Gehri has been announced as Ferozepur Rural candidate but there is great resentment among the other workers aspirant for ticket from this constituency which establishes the internal rift within the Congress party.
Added here, the MLA from Ferozepur (Rural), Joginder Singh Jindu was a member of the Cantonment Board for more than two decades before joining the SAD. In his first election in 2012, he had defeated Satkar Kaur Gehri of the Congress by 162 votes.
The main contender Amarjit Singh Gharu along with his supporters today expressed resentment over giving ticket to Satkar Kaur Gehri – a woman candidate.
Gharu and his supporters said, we all are serving the party for the last 15 years and for the sake of party, we have bear with the brunt on number of occasions. Not only this, we have even gone to the jail.
They informed that the ticket should be given only to the spotless persons only having clean record which criteria has not been adopted for this seat.
Expressing concern over the announcement of candidature of Satkar Kaur Gehri, they further said, the family of Gehri is not having a clean record and this is reason of our opposing of giving ticket to her. The party should reconsider for fielding of candidate in this constituency and in case is not replaced with other candidate, he will do by the verdict of workers and supporters.
On the other hand, Ferozepur Rural Congress candidate Satkar Kaur Gehri condemning all the charges said, the party has to give ticket to only one candidate after thorough consideration. Those who don’t get the ticket are bound to express their resentment but we all are united and she will try to make all possible efforts to reconcile with them.
