Holding seminars would not suffice to check disproportionate sex ratio; needs awareness through women role models : Anita
Ferozepur, November 25, 2016: Even after passing of 24 hours, there is no clue of female foetus found near the railway quarters and the police have registered a case against unidentified women and nurse.
In India there are many shocking instances of female infanticide by strangulation, poisoning, dumping in garbage bins, drowning, burying alive, starvation and over exposure to elements. A startling fact is that often the mother or other female members in her network actively participate in the execution of these heinous killings.
It was an old tradition of killing of girls on taking birth and the only difference is that now the female child is killed before taking birth.
The police department after handing over the female foetus to the Health Department have started further investigation into the matter by registering of a case against the unidentified persons.
Dr.Nikhil Gupta said, the foetus after lifting from the railway colony, has been sent to the Urban PHC Dispensary.
Sharing his views, he said, for a healthy society the male female sex ratio must remain at a balanced level. The alarming rate of female foeticide is a cause of grave concern, as the number of girls born is declining drastically in several sections of our society. Due to this disproportionate ratio, the situation has the potential to expose females to more exploitation and violence. This state of affairs if not checked will have a disastrous impact on the future generations of our country.
The local social organizations have stated that no doubt our society is worried about the alarming skewed ratio gender and merely holding seminars, debates and putting up hoardings would not suffice to get rid of the menace of female foeticide, we have to study the reasons behind it while making a further strategy to overcome this hazard.
This steep decline can be linked to the ever growing preference for a male child. The selection is done through either sex selective abortions or female infanticides said Anita. There is a need of mindset of the mothers and parents to welcome the female child also as they are now competing at par with the boys in every field as role models, she added.
