Jat Reservation Stir : Delhi/Bikaner Div cancelled 71 trains
Ferozepur, February 22, 2016: The railways having suffered losses crores of rupees taking no further risk and have cancelled 71 mail/express and passenger trains in Delhi/Bikaner Division.
The protests by the Jat community demanding other backward classes (OBC) status has turned violent with several parts of Haryana under curfew.
Since the start of jat reservation protests, the railways have so far cancelled 254 trains on different dates and today 71 trains were cancelled in its Delhi and Bikaner divisions, besides short-termination of several trains leaving the passengers, commuters in an abrupt uncontrolled movement.
While in Ferozepur and Ambala Divisions, 624 trains including 124 passenger trains and about 500 goods trains have been cancelled leading to a huge loss to these railway divisions also.
Added here, the earlier also the railways have suffered huge losses on accounts of farmers agitation in Punjab.
The railway official said, the cancellation or short-termination of trains put a great harassment to passengers and especially the commuters who had to join their duties and those who have advance booking with their pre-planned programmes for meeting, marriages, interview or any other business appointments.
