Maiden Govt. College building in Ferozepur waits for finishing point

Ferozepur, February 8, 2016:With the slow pace of construction work at the maiden Government College under construction at village Mohakam Khan Wala for the last many months, the local Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki and Congress Rural President Satkar Kaur Gehri today blocked the traffic by sitting on dharna on Ferozepur-Zira road.

Addressing the protestors, Pinki said, the project is the initiative of  sanctioned during the fag end of the UPA-II regime at a cost of Rs.16 crore. The grant was also released but due to dilly-dallying attitude of the Punjab Government, the construction work is held-up, due to non-clearance of pending bills of Rs.8 crore of the contractor.

Congress MLA said, In the absence of any government college at the district headquarters to date, students who cannot afford education in private institutes have to travel miles to gain higher education.

He further said, the government is making tall claims of development with assurance that there will be no shortage of funds whereas the fund for the development works already going on are not being released.

Giving a warning to the government, Pinki said, in case the grant for the college is not released immediately, they will be compelled to sit on  dharna again before the college.

Contractor sources said that they have invested a lot of funds in the project but they were having a tough time in getting the amount released.  Due to non-payment labour class, the construction work has slowed down with less number of labourers.

The college building was supposed to be completed by July last but due to paucity of funds and as per the present status of the building. It looks that it would not be possible to start the new academic session during this year as lot of infrastructure including the staff besides completion of building, has to be arranged well before that.  The poor students of the border town are likely to miss admissions for another academic session.

Present among others on this occasion were, Chamkaur Singh Dhindsa, Gurmej Satnam Singh, Munish Sharma, Rishi Sharma and others.
