493 mobiles besides other banned items recovered from jail during 2023

Ferozepur, November 6, 2023:  The jail staff swiftly working on a tip-off recovered 10 mobiles of different brands and one charger during the three raids conducted by the Assistant Superintendents and booked 9 prisoners and under-trial prisoners, under the Prisons Act,  already lodged in the jail, on account of trial or facing the punishment awarded by the courts.  With this recovery, the total recovery during the current years has gone to 493 besides other banned items.

It is pertinent to mention here that after registration of the case, the investigation in such recovery cases is also a problematic procedure as taking the prisoner for inquiry out of the jail on remand, is not free from security, especially when sufficient staff is not available to guard them.  Thus, the matter ends with the registration of cases in such recoveries.  However, in high-profile cases, the contact details are helpful in tracing the criminals’ accomplices in contact over the phone.

Divulging with the details, Gurmail Sigh IO said, six under-trial prisoners – Luvpreet Singh, Mithan, Arvinder, Rajan Singh, Ravinder Singh, and Gautam were booked on recovery six mobiles of different brands and colours – five with SIM cards and one without SIM Cards.  In the second raid, one under-trial prisoner Vikram, and one prisoner Manjit Singh were identified as recovering one mobile each with a battery and SIM cards was recovered and both are already in jail.  In the third raid on November 4, two mobiles were recovered   – one from under-trial prisoner Talwinder Singh and one lying unclaimed with battery and SIM cards.  Along with the nine prisoners, one unidentified person has also been booked with the recovery of one mobile as unclaimed.

The recovery has exposed that prisoners in the Ferozepur jail have been indulging in communication with the outside world using mobile phones, including smartphones. In addition to that, they have been utilizing wireless ear pods to stay connected beyond the confines of their prison cells. In the three raids, the cases have been registered under Section 52-A of the Prisons Act, with the appointment of Gurmail Singh, as IO, and further investigations are on.
