48 mobiles and other banned items recovered from jail in 2024

Ferozepur, July 11, 2027:  The recovery of mobiles, SIM cards, batteries, chargers, data cables, pen drives, adopters and other banned items is continuing and during 2024, 43 mobiles and 1818 sachets of tobacco have been recovered from inside the jail from the prisoners or lying unclaimed or from the packets thrown from the high walls. The recovery of mobiles and intoxicant materials is common now but the recovery of data cables is not free from a security point of view in this digital era.

More than 500 cases are going on in the court and there is no tracing so far shared with the media.  The investigation in the recovery of mobiles, except in high-profile cases, ends with the registration of the case as taking the prisoner on remand for investigation is not free from a security point of view.

In the recent recovery from 5 throws from outside, 3 mobiles of 58 gm intoxicant powder, 67 sachets of tobacco, 5 bundles of bidis, four cool lips and one pack of cigarettes were found.  However, during the current year, there had been 134 throws with the recovery of 43 mobiles, 2 SIM cards, 6 mobile batteries, 2 headphones, 2 chargers 11 data cables and intoxicant substances which include 1818 sachets of tobacco.

There was a recovery of 15 mobiles in January, 5 in February, 6 in March, 6 in May, 8 in June and 3 mobiles in July besides other banned items.

According to Gurmail Singh ASI, most of his time is consumed in attending more than 500 court cases.  Since taking the prisoner on remand for investigation is risky in the absence of appropriate security arrangements, there is hardly any outcome in the post-recovery inquiries, except in high-profile cases like 15,000 calls from two mobiles by the gangsters and the matter ends with the registration of the case.

Satnam Singh, Superintendent Jail said, we have covered with the extra security at sensitive points.  Since the campus is open from two sides and touches the thickly populated area, the unscrupulous persons come, throw the packets inside the jail and run away.
