25 acres standing wheat crop gutted in fire in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, April 16, 2016: Standing wheat crop, spread over 25 acres of land, was gutted in fire in village Gillan Wala near Ferozepur.
The faces of the farmers see ray of hope for marketing of their standing wheat crop when it is matured for harvesting during the month of April, after bringing it up like a son, by feeding seed, water besides praying to the Almighty to save from any unnatural havocs till its dumping in the mandi.
According to Kulwinder Singh and Aman, about 25 acres of standing wheat crop has totally damaged due to break out of fire in the fields. Immediately on noticing of fire, the residents of village managed to overpower the fire, by using the tractors, to save it from further spreading to the adjoining fields, in the event of high velocity winds.
The fire tenders were also called but the fire extinguishing was managed before its arrival. The cause of the fire could not be known.
Farmers who faced 25 acres crop damage loss, demanded compensation from the Punjab Government.
Talking to agriculture expert, D.K.Sahi, he said, crop insurance is the only alternative to compensate fully to the farmers in the event of any natural calamity and the government and farmers both must work out some formula for the insurance premiums besides other formalities.
