Ferozepur Narcotic Cell recovers 6.730 kg heroin, former Sarpanch held
Ferozepur, October 15, 2021: Ferozepur police claimed to have nabbed Didar Singh former Sarpanch with the recovery of four packets of contraband items weighing 6.730 kg.
Divulging with details, SSP Ferozepur Harman Hans said, the police team – Jagdish Kumar, DSP(D) and Parminder Singh, Incharge Anti Narcotic Cell, Angrez Singh, SI – headed by Gurmit Singh Cheema, SP(Investigation) during patrolling intercepted with one person on Fazilka Road, identified as Didar Singh, former Sarpanch of village Norang Ke Syal with a motorcycle. During the search, initially 120 gm heroin was recovered and a further 6.610 kg heroin consignment was recovered at the designated place, from the field paddy fields, near gate number 177/1, Burzi number 177/10 Tapu Chowki near 116 Bn BSF. Didar Singh has a criminal background and is involved in three cases, he added.
On asking about the recovery of one packed of sugar weighing 1.135 Kgs, SSP confirmed but its contents are being examined and also the motive.
On expanding the jurisdiction of BSF known as India’s First Line of Defence to 50 km from the international border in three states which have sparked a political storm in Punjab, he said, as hitherto of 15 km jurisdiction, the police will continue to coordinate with the BSF, as per the notification by the government on the subject.
SSP informed that the accused will be produced before the court to get remand for further in-depth investigation of having inward and outward links across the border and more clues are likely to come on the surface to break the supply chain.
