14 Army dignitaries from British Royal Military Academy to attend 120th Martyrs’ Anniversary of battle of Saragarhi

Ferozepur, September 11, 2017:  The State level celebrations of 120th martyrs’ anniversary of Battle of Saragarhi will be organized on September 12 at the historical Saragarhi Memorial at Ferozepur.

The memorial was built in 1904 in memory of the 21 Sikh soldiers who died fighting against 10,000 Pathans while defending their post in Fort Lockhart in the North West Frontier Province on September 12, 1897.

Parminder Singh Pinki, Congress MLA said all arrangements have been made for the celebrations.  He said, the state level function will be presided over by Finance Minister, Manpreet Singh Badal in the absence of Capt Amarinder Singh Chief Minister away to London.

He informed Navjot Singh Sidhu, Cabinet Ministers, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and in good number of MLAs will pay tributes to the martyrs of Saragarhi.

On this occasion, 14 Army dignitaries from British Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Surry, England  coming to attend the Saragarhi commemoration  day celebrations are – Maj Gen Duncan Francis Capps, Brig Timothy John Seal, Col John Richard Kendall, Lt Col William David Blakey, Lt Col Saly Yvonne Arthurton, Maj Sartaj Singh Gogna, Maj Donna Lodge, Capt John Bermard Warburton, Capt David Michael Luke Wadding, Capt Daljinder Singh Virdee, WO Ashok Kumar Chauhan MBE, LCpl Hapreet Kaur and Pte Harshal Singh.

 

Besides, 16 members from Saragarhi Foundation Punjab are also coming on this valedictory fuction.

 

The celebrations will include display of exhibition by various departments, honouring of heirs of martyrs of Saragarhi, ex-servicemen, dependents and foreign dignitaries, followed by ‘langar’.
